Browder is no saint, but he is certainly a boy scout compared to the likes of Putin and the grinding system that destroys bodies minds and souls under him.

I’ve always wondered why he would become a British citizen - and, presumably, renounce his U.S. citizenship. I mean, he’s clearly in much more danger there from Putin (Litvinenko, the Skripals) than he would be in the U.S.

He cited that he did so because of “a legacy of bad feeling about the rule of law” as a result of his family having been “viciously persecuted” by U.S. authorities in the 1950s, citing especially his communist grandfather, Earl Browder who was imprisoned twice during the era of McCarthyism.
BTW he’s been on Al Franken’s podcast a couple times at least. Good episodes.

I knew about his grandfather’s history; he mentions it in pretty much every interview I’ve ever heard, but he’s never sounded all that resentful about it. Just makes light of the irony of Earl Browder’s grandson becoming a capitalist.
He certainly has every right to be resentful, but I’m wondering if he might be re-thinking that decision now that he’s in Putin’s crosshairs. The Brits don’t have such a great track record when it comes to protecting such people. I rather think that Putin, who obviously has no respect for the sovereignty of the U.K. (or Ukraine, or Georgia, or…) might think twice about whacking an American on American soil.
Actually, on second thought, that’s what I would have said two months ago. Not so sure any more, come to think of it.

@judge204 — on top of what Gecko said, assassination seems to be reserved for Russian-born dissidents. Only exception I can think of is the attempt on Viktor Yushchenko, but Ukraine is a bit of a special case (as we’ve been finding out in recent years).
